To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re showcasing stories from our Mayfair community.  Jewellery designer Annoushka launches Helping Hands – a special collection with £35 from each sale going towards Women Supporting Women programmes, run by The Princes Trust; Moynat, artisanal craftsmanship and Parisian leather goods house pays tribute to their founder, Pauline Moynat, who brought a transformative effect to a male dominated industry in 1849 and McQueen’s has created a special bouquet using the mimosa flower, a symbol of International Women’s day since 1946 when Italian feminists chose it as a symbol of strength, sensibility and sensitivity.

The women who make Mayfair

This month we tell Bianca Tavella’s story.  Founder and CEO of Fair Shot Café in South Molton Street, Bianca opened this social enterprise at the end of last year with a dream in her heart: to address the UK’s shockingly high unemployment levels for young people with learning difficulties.

Working with young adults, she helps them to gain the skills needed to begin a career in hospitality. The environment is inclusive and encouraging and you can feel the strength and dedication of the Fair Shot community. Providing on the job training and paid trainee placements, Bianca then partners individuals with employers to create more jobs for adults with learning difficulties. The social enterprise has met with resounding applause and praise from visitors and community alike – speaking to the heart of Bianca’s dream.
