As a fashion editor, I’m often asked what trends are worth investing into in the long run, and which are best kept to a passing season. When it comes to accessories, my answer is always the same: a timeless designer handbag, and carefully curated gold jewellery.

I’ve had the privilege of attending many fashion shows in London, Milan and Paris twice a year for several seasons now, and while many trends have come and gone, gold accessories have consistently been the finishing touch to designer outfits.

Whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist, this trend is perfect as it works for everyone (not least because gold also happens to flatter every skin tone). If you’re not a big jewellery person, even a pair of delicate gold hoops can really elevate a basic outfit such as a high neck knitted dress. If it’s more of a statement you’re after, layering gold necklaces is one of my favourite looks: the key is to mix and match lengths and textures, such as coin medallions with chunkier chain necklaces.

In terms of rings, looks for delicate bands that you can easily layer for the daytime, and for evening dos, opt for signet rings and semi-precious stones. Finally, you can’t go wrong with a chunky chain bracelet, especially in summer. I’ve had my Monica Vinader style for several years and it’s still my go-to.

Simply put, you’ll never regret investing in a few key pieces, since there are endless combinations in which to wear them in a way that is unique to you.
