Hamiltons Gallery is London’s leading photography gallery specialising in the sale of photographs from the mid-twentieth century onward. Situated in the heart of Mayfair, tucked away behind The Connaught hotel, the gallery hosts a regular programme of photography exhibitions representing some of history’s most important photographers as well as contemporary practitioners, and selling pictures by its representative artists as well as prints from the secondary market. The gallery is a must-visit when in Mayfair, whether you’re looking to purchase your first picture, build on your photography collection or learn more about the art of buying photographs.

This winter, Hamiltons Gallery is showcasing ‘South Americana’, a brand-new collection of work from iconic photographer Mario Testino. The exhibition highlights images from Testino’s ongoing project ‘A Beautiful World’ which explores cultural traditions and symbols of peoples around the globe. Whilst Mario Testino has historically been recognised as one of the world’s most in-demand commercial and fashion photographers, his life and career’s real magnum opus is at its genesis. This exhibition takes at its heart themes which, like the overall project, reflect the origins of the artist himself. Peruvian in origin, Testino has returned repeatedly to the Andes to explore the regions hidden cultural histories such as in his 2007-2020 project Alta Moda. Unlike this project which focused on a very specific fashion from the mountains of Peru, ‘South Americana’ captures the spirit of the larger  region and universal truths to be found within it.

The exhibition Mario Testino: South Americana is open now until 8th January 2022 at Hamiltons Gallery, London.
